We are excited that the use of Commons Connect by PRADAN in Jharkhand was covered on the front page of the national daily, Dainik Bhaskar, in all its regional editions!
The reporting by Romesh Sahu (Senior News Editor) and Shiv Manoj Kumar was accurate and detailed. Key points highlighted:
- Time saving: What used to take 2 weeks to build an NRM plan for a village can now be done in 3-4 days. This is primarily due to access to many curated datasets in one place, integrated PRA and NRM planning on Commons Connect, and collection of geo-tagged data via carefully designed forms that capture all important fields and nothing more.
- Decision support: Stage of groundwater extraction, water balance, CLART to assess the groundwater recharge potential at a prospective site, agroforestry potential tool, and many more data layers and site analysis, all available on the app. And in offline mode as well for areas lacking Internet connectivity.
- Stronger collectivization: Being able to reflect on the data in a participatory setting, with special emphasis on equity and to draw in marginalized communities into the conversation, helps everyone expand their worldview and build a broader perspective to take action for the landscape.
